Defenders Day is observed on September 12, 2017 in the U.S. State of Maryland. The public holiday commemorates the day of the successful defense of Baltimore against a British invasion in 1814 during the War of 1812. The turning point in American history occurred about three weeks after the British had taken and burned most of Washington DC. The celebrations to Defenders Day include fireworks, reenactments of the battle, exhibitions and demonstrations, not limited to war and battle. It is a perfect opportunity to enjoy the free day with the family and learn something important about American history.
