In Australia and New Zealand Anzac Day takes place on April 25, 2018. It is a national day of remembrance and a national public holiday, which is celebrated annually. Originally it was created to honor the members of the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps (ANZAC). The day is one of Australia's most important national occasions, as it marks the anniversary of the first major military action fought by Australian and New Zealand forces during the First World War. Anzac Day today commemorates all those who served and died in military operations. The day is also observed in the Cook Islands, Niue, Pitcairn Islands, and Tonga. On Anzac day, commemorative services and ceremonies are held.
