On March 21, 2018 the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, which is commemoration which the United Nations initiated in 1966. It goes back to the Sharpeville massacre where 200.000 people demonstrated against the Apartheid-regime. The situation got out of control and caused 69 deaths and hundreds of injured people.
The UN-day is not only against physical violence and racial discrimination but also against subtly discrimination in the everyday life. Prejudices against people with different skin color or other cultural backgrounds can cause discrimination which leads to violence and tears the society apart. The International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination usually takes place during the UN week against racism.
