On September 29, 2020 Michaelmas, the feast day for Saint Michael, the Archangel takes place. In 493 pope Gelasius I fixed that date because it is the votive date for the Michael’s Chapel at Via Salaria in Rome, Italy. Michael is the greatest of all Archangels, but this is also the Feast Day of Gabriel, Uriel and Raphael, or short the Feast of the Archangels. On this day Christians and Protestants believe they get strength from the angels for autumn and winter. They are messengers of God, pronouncing important happenings and most of all they are guardians for the people on earth.
Michaelmas is traditionally a day for weather predictions. People say that autumn will be rainy if it rains on Michaelsmas. In the opposite there is a great and sunny autumn to come if the weather is fine on the Feast of the Archangels. It is said that Michael has a list with all the bad and good deeds of all people and he is the one who guards the gate to paradise. When someone dies it will be Michael who decides whether that person may enter paradise or not. Archangel Michael is also the one who defeated Satan in combat. In Germany there are still many churches and convents named after him because during the Middle Ages, he was the patron saint of Germany.
