National Science Day is celebrated on February 28, 2025. National Science Day marks the discovery of the Raman scattering by the Indian physicist Sir Chandrasekhara Venkata Raman on February 28 in 1928. The Raman Effect names inelastic scattering of a photon. For the first proof of that effect Raman got the Nobel Prize in 1930. Each year National Science Day follows another topic but it is always an honor for Raman.
The Minister of Science and Technology helps making this day an awareness day for the importance and value of science for a nation’s development by holding speeches at universities. In India National Science Day is always at the end of the Indian Science Week. Other nations celebrate a Science eek, too, but on different dates.
