World Art Day is observed on April 15, 2026. It was proclaimed by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in 2019 and has been marked annually since 2020. The date was chosen to coincide with the birthday of Leonardo da Vinci, representing creativity, innovation and the universality of art.
The purpose of the day is to promote the development, enjoyment and appreciation of art in all its forms. It recognizes the role of art in encouraging dialogue, expression and cultural understanding across societies.
World Art Day encourages educational activities, exhibitions and community projects that foster artistic engagement. UNESCO supports the use of art to promote freedom of expression and cultural diversity.
