World Meditation Day is observed on December 21, 2025. It was proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly in 2023 has been observed annually since 2024. The date was chosen to coincide with the winter solstice in the Northern Hemisphere, symbolizing inner stillness and reflection.
The purpose of the day is to raise awareness of the mental, emotional and physical benefits of meditation. It promotes mindfulness and inner peace as tools for individual well-being and collective harmony. For every individual who has little or no knowledge on meditation and its benefits, it is a great opportunity to get into it and start with a simple, guided meditation.
World Meditation Day encourages the inclusion of meditation in education, healthcare and workplace settings. The United Nations supports global efforts to make meditation more accessible as part of mental health and wellness strategies.
