Cornwall, UK celebrates Golowan, a traditional midsummer festival, from June 23 to June 28, 2023. Until the late 1890s the festivities consists of blazing tar barrels paraded around the town’s streets and bonfires lit on the surrounding hills. After authorities outlawed the festival, due to the very high fire risk, the Golowan Festival experienced a revival in 1991 to one of the most colorful festivals. The core of the festival is Mazey Day. On this day the streets are full of entertainers and market stalls. The local school children parade holding paper mache and wicker creations. The celebrations were conducted from the 23rd of June (St John's Eve) to the 28th of June (St Peter's Eve) each year.
