The International Day for Women in Maritime is observed on May 18, 2026. It was established by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) in 2021 and has been marked annually since 2022. The date does not mark a specific historical event.
The aim of the day is to recognize the contribution of women to the maritime industry and to promote gender equality in the sector. It supports increased participation of women in all areas of maritime professions, including seafaring, engineering, logistics and leadership roles.
The International Day for Women in Maritime encourages policy development, training opportunities and visibility for women in the field. The IMO calls for greater inclusion and equal opportunities to build a more diverse and sustainable maritime industry.
