The World Day for African and Afrodescendant Culture is observed on January 24, 2026. It was proclaimed by UNESCO in 2019 and has been celebrated annually since 2020. The date coincides with the adoption of the Charter for African Cultural Renaissance in 2006.
The purpose of the day is to celebrate the richness and diversity of African and Afrodescendant cultures worldwide. It recognizes their contributions to global heritage, creativity and identity.
The World Day for African and Afrodescendant Culture promotes cultural expression, intercultural dialogue and the protection of intangible heritage. UNESCO encourages initiatives that foster inclusion and combat racism through cultural recognition and participation.
