World Duchenne Awareness Day is observed on September 07, 2025. It has been recognized by the United Nations since 2014 and is observed annually. The date was chosen because the gene responsible for Duchenne muscular dystrophy was identified on 7 September 1986.
The day aims to raise awareness of Duchenne muscular dystrophy, a rare genetic disorder that primarily affects boys and leads to progressive muscle degeneration. There is currently no cure for the disease, but early diagnosis and supportive treatment can improve quality of life.
World Duchenne Awareness Day focuses on education, advocacy and global cooperation in research and support. The United Nations uses the occasion to promote understanding of the condition and to call for equal access to treatment and care for all affected individuals.
