The World Day of Romani Language takes place on November 05, 2025. It was proclaimed by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in 2015 and has been marked annually since 2016. The date was chosen to commemorate the official recognition of the Romani language by the Croatian Parliament in 2008.
The day promotes the protection and development of the Romani language as an integral part of the cultural identity of Romani people. It also aims to combat discrimination and support linguistic diversity in Europe and beyond.
The World Day of Romani Language highlights the value of minority languages and encourages their inclusion in education, media and public life. It supports the rights of Romani communities and cultural expression.
