The International Day of Reflection and Commemoration of the 1995 Genocide in Srebrenica is observed on July 11, 2026. It was proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly in 2024 and has been marked annually since then. The date commemorates the massacre that took place in Srebrenica, Bosnia and Herzegovina, between July 11 and 16 in 1995.
The purpose of the day is to honour the memory of the victims and to promote truth, justice and reconciliation. It recognizes the genocide committed against more than 8,000 Bosniak men and boys by Bosnian Serb forces during the Bosnian War.
The International Day of Reflection and Commemoration of the 1995 Genocide in Srebrenica encourages education, remembrance and global efforts to prevent genocide. The United Nations calls for the protection of human rights and the dignity of all communities.
